MALTHUS
LONDON
Malthus is the solo project of film director,
multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Samuel J Lindblad.
Lindblad cites Malthus as
“a combination of music,
dance and moving image”,
and creates alternative,
vocal-led tracks that draw on
neoclassical
instrumentation,
dark-wave electronica
and industrial
dance music.
Almost entirely self-taught,
Malthus’
musical influences
lean towards
the experimental
pop of Fka Twigs
and James Blake,
drawing comparison
to contemporary artists
Bjork, Sevdaliza,
Lafawndah, Anhoni,
Fever Ray and
Benjamin Clementine.
In 2020, Malthus launched
his own
independent record
and production label,
Littledoom Studio,
and was commissioned
to write the music for
Heliot Emil’s seminal
show “Compos Mentis”,
Followed by a
collaboration
with Charles Jeffrey
and Tim Walker
to score and appear in
“The Healing”, creating
the genre-bending
“Tide Went Time Ago”.
Malthus has also composed original scores for
Carlota Barrera,
Hugo Boss, Betsy Johnson,
CMMN SWDN,
and has had work featured
in Dazed and Confused,
Notion,
Fuuuucking Young,
ShowStudio,
The Face, GATA,
Kaltblut and
M Le Magazine
Du Monde.
